local art exhibit

One of the guiding philosophies behind Willcon was that this event would focus on involving the community. We saw Willcon as an event that would provide an outlet for creativity and expression.  We contacted the art departments of Belfry High School, Mingo Central High School, and Tug Valley High School and tasked them with designing a representative mascot for our event.  We were stunned by the quick response and the inspiring results.

Sydney Browning and Skylar Belcher, Mingo Central High School. Their character "Bitumen" was chosen from Mingo Central to be one of the characters of WillCon. Sydney is the brains and beauty behind the drawing and Skylar is the brains and beauty behind Bitumen's story! Both students were recognized for their creativity and hard work. "Bitumen" will now be utilized for future flyers, posters, and badges for WillCon. Sydney, Skyler and "Bitumen" will also be featured in local newspapers.

You can catch their art display during the convention so be sure to stop by their booth. Our graphic designer Heath Thompson and artist Alyssa Dyer also assisted with making "Bitumen" come alive as a comic book character!

We also want to say a special thank you to Mrs. Virginia Thomas, art teacher at Mingo Central, for supporting this project and for encouraging her students. We are always excited to showcase local talent and to let them know how much they are appreciated and supported
